Newscycle Solutions Website Integration
This integration allows Newscycle Solutions to use Clickshare to authenticate access to website content like articles.
This integration can be configured to require registration for specified categories of articles, to require a subscription for specified categories of articles, to meter access to specified categories of articles, or a combination of these approaches. If you choose to meter articles, Clickshare also supports advanced content metering for A/B testing metered access strategies. Learn more about Clickshare's metered paywall services here.

WordPress Website Integration
The Clickshare Authentication plugin is used to synchronize a WordPress content server with the Clickshare authentication server. It handles user login and logout, and the protection of subscription-required content. It also supports a metered paywall scheme, as well as IP-based and referrer-based whitelisted access.
The Clickshare plugin is designed around the idea that "protected" content doesn't mean "invisible" content. Other content management plugins will completely hide all posts that a user does not have access to, to the point that a customer may not even know that they're missing out on half your content. The Clickshare Authentication plugin works differently - headlines for all articles will still be visible, and will show the user either a short summary or the first few lines of the article, with a configurable cut-off point. The rest of the post will be hidden to users without the required subscription - replaced with either a log in link, or a link to Clickshare where they can manage their subscriptions.
The plugin requires a free additional third party plugin to function: Groups

-
Apache/IIS/Lotus Integration
The Clickshare Apache/IIS/Lotus Integration provides software that adds access control to content being served by Apache or IIS web servers. This module is available for situations where the publication manages its own web server to serve content using simple URLs to identify content. One of our other integration modules is more appropriate when using a content management system that includes an API or other provision for third-party authentication and access control.
The Clickshare Apache/IIS/Lotus Integration provides a web server plug-in that monitors requests and determines what rights are required for each request through pattern-matching. The plug-in configuration defines which URLs require authentication and specific rights, which URLs are exempt from authentication and, if desired, which URLs require specific payment (e.g., to require either a subscription or payment of a per-document fee for access).
-
Custom Content Management Integration
This module includes setup and licensing of the Clickshare software created to link the client's registration/authentication service to a custom content delivery server for the purpose of providing authentication, subscription management, and data exchange. The specified setup fee assumes that the Content Management Server is able to redirect browsers to the registration server when authentication is required, and look for and understand our response contained in a redirect back to the Content Management Server. If additional customer information is required on the Content Management Server, we provide an API the Content Management Server can use to request this information. We can use an API provided by the Content Management Server to push this information, but depending on the API details, this may require an additional setup fee.

File-Based Circulation Database Integration
This integration supports granting free or reduced cost access to online content for print delivery subscribers using a periodic (typically nightly) CSV file exchange.
For this integration, the client automatically or manually generates a CSV file from their circulation system with a fixed set of columns that contains all of the active print subscribers each day and places it on Clickshare's secure FTP (SFTP) server. Clickshare automatically checks for this file at set times. If a new file is found, Clickshare loads the file into its database. During this import process, Clickshare can be configured to update the existing online accounts that are linked to a print delivery subscription and create new online accounts for print delivery subscriptions that are not yet linked to an online account, optionally sending welcome emails to new accounts.
For example, the import process could do the following:
- Activate (or reactivate) the circulation-managed Clickshare subscription that provides access to online content for customers who have previously been linked to a print delivery subscription if the print delivery record exists in the import file.
- Cancel the circulation-managed Clickshare subscription that provides access to online content for customers who have previously been linked to a print delivery subscription if the print delivery record does not exist in the import file.
- Create Clickshare online accounts with circulation-managed Clickshare subscriptions that provide access to online content for records in the import file that contain email addresses but have not been linked to a Clickshare online account. When these Clickshare accounts are created, Clickshare sends a welcome email to each customer with a unique URL that allows them to set a password on their account that also invites them to interact with the site.
This module requires a service agreement with a third-party circulation system.

Clickshare also integrates with third-party vendors, such as Groupon and LivingSocial, that allow customers to sign up for subscriptions at a promotional rate. Clickshare's integrations with these services typically allow customers to redeem the codes issued by the External Promotion Manager for free subscriptions attached to their Clickshare account.

Event Ticket Module
The Event Ticket Module allows the sale of tickets to physical or web-based events. Tickets can be sold as single tickets, group sales (e.g., table for 10) and multi-ticket plans (e.g., buy one and get one at half-price). Both types of ticket can be optionally configured to have discount codes or to be automatically discounted for some or all subscribers. The purchase pages for each event can be customized with unique text, images, and field collections for the buyer and (in situations where the customer is purchasing more than one ticket) each attendee. Events can also be configured to close registration after the maximum number of attendees have registered.
This module provides the customer-facing pages and an administrative interface that allows clients to create new events and ticket types, monitor sales, and open or close sales as needed. The administrative pages also provide a feature to generate reports that can be used to create attendee lists in advance of the event.

Library Module
Clickshare-enabled websites can easily provide bulk access to their content to patrons at libraries, university students, customers at coffee shops or employees of companies. Collectively, these methods are known as the Library Module.
These methods can be used to grant access to all of your content to all customers who are associated with each institution or it can be used to grant access only to certain types of content to customers associated with each institution. This allows you to choose to only grant free access to specific categories of articles to customers accessing from each institution.
Each institution can be configured separately to either grant access to all of your content to customers who are associated with the institution or it can be used to grant access only to certain types of content to customers associated with the institution. For example, choosing to grant access only to certain types of content allows you to do things like grant access to only archived website articles but not breaking news articles or your eEdition.
There are several different ways to grant this access:
- - This type of institution-level access skips authentication completely for customers accessing content from within the IP range or ranges associated with a particular institution. This method is included in Clickshare Core.
- - For this type of institution-level access, each institution is assigned a unique URL. This unique URL can be configured to expire at a certain time or it can be configured to work indefinitely. This is available as an add-on module.
- - This type of institution-level access does not require customers to access from a specific IP range. Instead, the institution gets a customized URL for registration that requires the customer's email address to match one or more specified domains. This is available as an add-on module.
- - This type of institution-level access presents a special login page to customers accessing from a given IP or from within an IP range. Customers who register or log in through this page will have a special, free subscription added to their account that only provides access when they are accessing the site from that institution's IP or IP range. This is available as an add-on module.
- - This type of institution-level access is configured with a "master account" in Clickshare with a specialized subscription. This master subscription can only be added by Customer Service Representatives through Clickshare's administrative interface, and can be configured on a subscription-by-subscription basis to have any number of additional, linked "sub accounts" by Customer Service Representatives. This is available as an add-on module.
The differences between these types are explained in more depth here.
-
Awards/Nominations Module
This add-on provides a customizable interface to allow customers to enter nominations for awards programs. This module provides the customer-facing pages and an administrative interface that allows Customer Services Representatives to create new contests, view existing entries and generate reports from the entries.
-
File Open Document Rights Management
This module includes all of the software needed to encrypt documents and provide access to customers who have purchased or are otherwise eligible for access. Our integration uses software from File Open and includes the software and licenses from File Open required to encrypt and decrypt documents. There are no per-document or per-access fees except for our normal transaction fees.
This module requires an additional service agreement with the vendor.

Real-Time Payment Service
With our Real-Time Payment Service, the system performs the credit card purchase authorization as soon as the customer requests a purchase. This feature guarantees that the purchase is approved before the purchase is recorded (subscription renewals, of course, are not guaranteed). Features such as pay-per-view document purchase and classified purchases can benefit from Real-Time Payment, since the purchase is completed before the system delivers the document or the service is rendered.
Also with this service, each time a customer enters a credit card we issue a $1 authentication-only transaction to verify the validity of the credit card number. This allows us to immediately reject information for unusable credit card information. This ensures that the credit card information that the customer provides is syntactically correct and valid at the time that the customer provided it. While this does not guarantee that the charge will ultimately be approved when the customer makes a purchase, it does provides a second layer of protection when collecting credit card information.
The system performs settlement of all charge authorizations nightly, reducing the time before the funds appear in your bank account. The Account Manager also interfaces with the Real-Time Payment service allowing your finance department to initiate immediate credits, rather than posting credits to be processed during the next batch.
Our Real-Time Payment Service routes authorizations through the financial network via secure TCP/IP using your merchant bank account and your choice of charge processor. This means that all transactions go directly through the client's bank; Clickshare never holds the funds for the client. Clickshare already supports a variety of charge processors including (but not limited to) Authorize.net, Braintree, Edgil, Merchant eSolutions, and Vital/TSYS. Additionally for new clients, Clickshare will integrate with one credit card processor that supports an API at no additional cost to the client.
Real-Time Payment Service is included in Clickshare Core. For payments processed through Clickshare, Clickshare charges a transaction fee equaling 2.4% of each transaction amount with a minimum fee of $0.05 per transaction. Some charge processors charge their own, additional transaction fees.

Email-A-Colleague
This feature allows a customer with access to protected content to create a URL that can be sent to a colleague so the colleague can access that content without registering, without allowing access to other content. This feature can also be used to allow bloggers and others to reference articles that will not require registration. We record and report various statistics relating to the number of links created by each customer, number of uses and to what content these links are made.
-
Monthly CD-ROM containing registration information
Clickshare can provide a CD-ROM containing the registration information for all of the client's registered users. For monthly service, each CD-ROM costs $35, including shipping. Single requests cost $45. CD-ROMs are shipped by Express Carriers (2nd day service).
-
Back Issue Request Module
This feature allows customers to request back issues of the print newspaper. It allows customers to specify the publication, date, and quantity desired. The module can limit requests to issues going back to a fixed date, or a period such as the last 4 weeks. New orders can be exported to the publication for fulfillment and charging, or Clickshare can handle charges when orders are confirmed. Since these orders involve the purchasing of physical goods, we can only charge the customer's credit card when the order is available for shipping. If real-time charging is enabled, the module can perform a real-time check to make sure that the customer's credit card is valid.
-
Reprint Permission
This feature allows customers to request the right to reprint articles from your publications. The form is highly customizable and allows customers to indicate the reprint volume they are requesting and the media to be used for reprinting. These values can be factored into the pricing schedule. If real-time charging is enabled, we can process the charge for these requests at the time of the request, or upon approval by the publication. Reporting includes monthly summaries and daily export of new orders.
-
Scheduled Emails
Clickshare can periodically send automated emails to a group of registered customers. Clients often use this service to send a daily morning notification to customers informing them that the electronic edition is available. These emails can be sent as text or text plus HTML and can be customized for each registrant (e.g., to include their name and account number). Often the email references an image on your server with current front page. Clickshare does not provide statistics on number of emails delivered, opened, clicked through, etc. However, we do allow customers to easily opt-out of the emails. This service is charged as a monthly fee per distinct email group. Sending one email to regular customers and another email to NIE accounts would be charged as two emails.
-
Renewal Emails
Clickshare can send emails to customers whose subscriptions are about to expire and/or have expired reminding them to renew. Clickshare clients can individually target groups of customers based on their subscriptions and the status of their billing information. Some typical groupings include:
- Customers with auto-renewing subscriptions and valid billing information (the credit card will not have expired at renewal time), before the subscription expires.
- Customers with auto-renewing subscriptions and invalid billing information (the credit card will have expired at renewal time or the most recent charge using the card failed), before the subscription expires if they did not re-subscribe.
- Customers with non-auto-renewing subscriptions and valid billing information (the credit card will not have expired at renewal time), before and/or after the subscription expires.
- Customers with non-auto-renewing subscriptions and invalid billing information (the credit card will have expired at renewal time or the most recent charge using the card failed), before and/or after the subscription expires if they did not re-subscribe.
- Customers whose subscription renewal failed. This notification is sent at the time that these customers' renewals failed to be processed.
The typical set-up includes one email a few weeks before expiration, one at the time of expiration, and one after the expiration has passed. These emails can be sent as text or text plus HTML and can be customized for each registrant (e.g., to include their name and account number). Clickshare does not provide statistics on number of emails delivered, opened, clicked through, etc. However, we do allow customers to easily opt-out of the emails. This service has no additional charge.
-
One-time Email
Clickshare can send a one-time email to a group of registered customers. These emails can be sent as text or text plus HTML and can be customized for each registrant (e.g., to include their name and account number). Clickshare does not provide statistics on number of emails delivered, open, clicked through, etc. This is charged per mailing.
-
Metered Content
In its simplest configuration, Clickshare supports a solid paywall approach where content is categorized as either free to read or as requiring a subscription to read. For Clickshare clients who prefer a metered access approach to some or all of their website content, Clickshare's core services include content metering.
Clickshare's Content Meters can be configured to require registration for specified categories of articles, to require a subscription for specified categories of articles, to meter access to specified categories of articles, or a combination of these approaches. If you choose to meter articles, Clickshare also supports advanced content metering for A/B testing metered access strategies.
Learn more about Clickshare's metered paywall services here.
-
Subscription Wallets and "Micropayments"
Clickshare supports the purchase of credits that customers can use at a later date to purchase access to single articles, subscriptions, or products.
Most Clickshare clients use this functionality to allow customers to purchase wallets of daypasses that can each be used on whatever day the customer chooses. This functionality could be used to purchase access to single articles or even to digital documents.
Clickshare clients who offer day passes give customers the choice of how many credits they want to buy. Customers can use their credits at any time - they don't need to use them on consecutive days.
Day passes can be configured to show customers a confirmation page before using their day pass credits. This is optional, and the system can be configured to just silently use the credit if that is preferred.

Gift Subscription Module
The gift subscription capture module allows publications to offer a variety of online-only subscription terms for purchase. The gift giver can add gift subscriptions for up to five recipients in a single transaction. For each of these gift subscriptions, the gift giver can decide whether they want to give their gift on an automatic, recurring basis or as a one-time gift.
Upon successful purchase, the gift giver receives a confirmation email with information about each gift recipient, and each gift recipient receives an email informing them that they've received a gift subscription. If a new account was added for the gift recipient, the email also provides them with a link to set the password for their account. Gift givers can also add new gift subscriptions for recipients who already have a Clickshare-managed account.
Clickshare also supports the ability to send notification emails to both the gift giver and recipients when the renewal date for the recipient's gift subscription approaches. These emails can be tailored based on whether the gift giver indicated that they wish to automatically give their gift on a recurring basis or not.
-
Subscriptions
Clickshare supports subscriptions for any type of term, including daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly terms. Publishers can elect to offer special pricing or limited-duration free trial subscriptions to different categories of customer such as print, geographic, or other packages.
-
Open Houses
Publishers can configure their site to provide free access to customers who log in or register during a specified time period. This access can be sponsored by a major advertiser, and the registration and login pages can be configured to show sponsor information during the open house.
-
Newspapers in Education (NIE) Access
Clickshare supports the ability to provide free access to online content for students and teachers during the school year.
